Little Bites,
Big Words
Little Bites, Big Words is a pediatric speech-language pathology private practice located in Grosse Pointe Park, MI. We see clients from birth to six years old. All services are conducted in the comfort of your own home or community space.
About Me
I’m Allison Squatrito, the founder and owner of Little Bites, Big Words. After working in various hospital systems, I created this practice to provide flexibility and increased accessibility for clients. My delivery model is to conduct feeding, speech, and language services in your home or community. Each treatment plan will be tailored for the client, with consideration for the duration, and timing of sessions, as well as the overall length of services needed. I strive to make my services convenient, efficient, and individualized.
A little bit about me - I live in Grosse Pointe Park with my husband, our son, and two dogs. We love being a part of this community and all that it has to offer. We try to spend as much time outside as we can, often near the lake. I take any opportunity I can to explore new coffee shops, Detroit-style pizza restaurants, and ice cream spots. I enjoy meeting new clients and I can’t wait to start our therapy journey together!
Work Experience
Education/Credentials
I have 8 years of experience working in the following settings:
I treat articulation and language disorders, with a strong emphasis on feeding therapy with premature infants, up to toddler-age children.
Services Offered
New patients can be enrolled via phone or email. A free screening will be conducted during our first contact. Let’s get started!
Feeding
I focus on infant, newborn, and toddler feeding. I can assist with difficulties involving bottle or breast feeding, and the (sometimes tricky) transition to solids.
Speech
Through drill-based therapy, I will work on improving the sounds within your child’s speech to improve their intelligibility.
Language
Language therapy can be play-based or more structured, depending on your child’s age. I can address a number of concerns related to difficulties with understanding or use of language.
Feeding Therapy
Reasons your infant or child may need feeding therapy include slow or no weight gain, having a limited list of accepted foods, and displaying eating skills that you feel are delayed. I will complete a comprehensive evaluation of your infant or child’s eating skills in your own home where your family is most comfortable. The evaluation will include an interview with a caregiver, observation of eating, and as assessment of oral structures. From there we can create a therapy plan that will be customized to help your infant or child be most successful for the future.
Speech Therapy
Is your child having trouble pronouncing certain sounds? This is where I come in. I will do a full assessment of your child’s speech-sound production to determine where the difficulties are occurring. Then we can work together to target specific sounds and quickly improve your child’s speech. This type of therapy is best accomplished in a drill format. It’s best to start when your child is around three years old or older.
Language Therapy
Language refers both to the understanding and the use of communication, and therapy can start as early as eighteen months of age. Common language concerns include limited use of sounds or words, a delay in production of phrases and sentences, difficulty understanding what others are saying, and trouble using or understanding language concepts. At our first visit I will complete an evaluation of current language skills. We can create goals together that focus on the functional development and use of language.
